I'm finally home. Little Gabriella was born on May 9 at 6:48 AM. She weighed 8 pounds 1.1 ounces, and measured at 21 inches long. What a big baby! Nothing went the way I planned it, but I'm OK with that. She's here now and that's all that matters. *GRIN*

Daddy is very proud. Everyone (there was not one person who looked at her and didn't say this) said she looked a lot like Daddy. She has his light skin, his hair color, his face, and even his big feet! My goodness, she has the biggest feet I've ever seen on a newborn! They look like paddles or something. Hehehehe.

So far she's been pretty good. Not overly fussy or anything. I had to wake up maybe four different times during the night, but the last time she slept for a good long while because I was able to wake up on my own and have her still be asleep. I'm nursing her, so that's been a bit of an adventure ... I feed her whenever she's hungry and keep hoping that I'm doing it right. Ah well. Time will tell, and so will her diapers I'm sure. LOL.

Anyway, that's it from us for now. I'm going to go eat something and relax a bit before she's up again. I'll be around checking private messages and quicknotes, so drop one my way if you'd like.

I'm sorry to hear that the little one looks like Mark though, that's no start in life for anybody, but I'm sure she'll rise above it! *Grin*

Congrats and hugs to you all.

Oh wow! Another one on the list of heartfelt congratulations. I'm really happy for the both of you, all three of you. And big feet are traditionally a good sign in a lot of cultures. Or it could just mean she'll be tall!
Just, wow! So glad everything's OK, even the unexpected bits. May there be all the joy and peace and gurgling laughter and occasional sleep and building of new things that you can bear.

Post 27 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Monday, 14-May-2007 5:30:04

Yay, congrats on the brand new baby, Zone baby #3 then *grin* talk about a successful, I mean sussexful web site.
Say goodbye to sleep (I hope you have extended family living close by that will agree to take her at least one night a month) and get ready for loads of crying and rocking, walking around, shushing singing (hey the baby doesn't care if you can't sing, good thing too, at least in our case) and diper changing. But it's awesome and it'll only get even more fun in a couple of months when the baby develops character, starts cooing and talking, rolling and interacting with you. No one could evenpretend this is easy and there will be times where you are totally exasperated, but over all it's really and truly the most amazing thing in the world.

Post 28 by OrangeDolphinSpirit (Despite the cost of living, have you noticed how popular it remains?) on Monday, 14-May-2007 9:08:54

Awww. Thanks, you guys, for all the congratulatory messages.

The most recent thing i'm dealing with is diaper rash. I didn't know she had it at first, so I thought she just didn't like her diaper changed, but man ... I'd be wailing and bawling my head off, too, if I had one of those nasty things. My mom noticed it and told me, so I try to be as gentle as possible when wiping her down, and apply the rash cream before putting a new diaper on. What a relief that's all it was! Last night was hell. LOL. She woke up every hour, screaming, and I was so frustrated 'cause I couldn't figure out what was wrong. She messed her diaper, it seemed, every time I checked her, so I kept changing her. Then I thought maybe she was gassy or something because she'd fall asleep with me, but every time I'd put her down in her crib, she'd start wailing again. Now she's out like a light, and I'm hoping it stays that way for at least another hour.

I know it gets better, and I can't wait. My mom did a nice thing for me yesterday and took the baby while I slept a couple of hours. She bathed her and put her to sleep and she slept for a few hours. This parenting thing sure adds a new appreciation to moms. Things look a lot different when you're on the parenting end of the scale. Hehehe.

Congratulations to you both. Yeh diaper rash is no fun and the rash cream usually works miracles. Also I dunno if they told you but use baby powder with cornstarch not the talcum powder that everyone sells. It's much better. You can get it at Baby's R Us or probabbly target or Walmart.

Post 31 by Wraith (Prince of Chaos) on Monday, 14-May-2007 20:38:29

Firstly, please permit me the small boon of an apology for my belated response to this particular topic. I meant no slight by my lack of a congratulation to the gift of a new life into your world.

Secondly, I'll reiterate the ending piece of my first statement and extend my fondest thoughts with regard to your new (and first) child. Congratulations, and I fully trust that both you and Mark will be good parents. Allie, you I've known for quite a while, even if not always closely. Mark, you I've had the opportunity to colaborate with on several projects. I therefore feel completely confident in stating that Gabriella could not have been born to a better couple.

I've been through many new-born events, and they are all special. While I have as yet (and may indeed never) had the opportunity to experience the miracle of being a parent, I can only imagine how much pride and joy little Gabriella has brought into your lives.

Fondest wishes and the sincerest hopes of a bright future for you, Little Gabriella:
Kai

I myself am not a parent yet, but I do know that motherhood is different with every person. The question of what it's like to be a mommy, seems difficult to answer.

What's it like to be a mommy?
Like nothing else you'll ever experience. *SMILE*
You have a baby, you love her, you'd die for her, and you hope you don't screw up. And that's not the half of it. It's helped me find a new appreciation for life.

congrats on the baby!!!!! what a wonderful thing. if you can't get to the store for the cornstarch powder, just use the cornstarch in your kitchen. although it doesn't smell as good, it is a lot less expensive.
